WEYMOUTH Football Club's youth development officer Tim Davis has announced that the Terras will be entering a new team into the South West Counties Under-18s League next season.

The move will enable the club to showcase their most talented youngsters and they are now on the lookout to add to their squad.

The Wessex Stadium outfit already possess several county representatives and it is envisaged that they will form the backbone of the team, supplemented by some top quality signings.

First-team manager John Hollins is keen to be involved in the new set-up and has hopes that some of the players will ultimately progress through to his Blue Square Premier squad.

Davis said: "It is vital for the long-term future of Weymouth Football Club that we look to develop our own local talent.

"The formation of an Under-18s team in the South-West Counties League is of paramount importance as it provides quality opposition to play against and is a stepping stone to breaking into the first team.

"I have already received lots of interest from players wishing to play and come the start of next season I am expecting us to be in a position to field an extremely strong team.

"There is also an opportunity for players to come and join our academy which we have in partnership with Weymouth College, enabling players to further their education and also play in the Conference Youth League."

The club is also looking for local companies to support the project.
