LOCAL charity, Loders Young Players, held its 13th annual awards at Loders village hall.

Directing local children, aged 5-18, into professional coaching at subsidised rates for tennis and mini tennis (with LTA coach Alan Cash), real tennis (with Hyde professional Ben Ronaldson), swimming (with ASA coach Penny Yarnold) and badminton (with Mike and Mary Kite), the club continues to go from strength to strength.

The awards commenced with chairman, David Lee, reflecting on a busy 2013 and thanking the committee, parents, coaches and locals for their continued support.

Awards co-ordinator and secretary, Lesley Lee, acknowledged that LYPs members had been very successful with four members representing the county.

They include Eva Bowring (under-16s ladies cricket and athletics), Ollie Lee (under-15s cricket), Rosie Hart (under-11s badminton) and Olivia Willmore (under-11s badminton and cross country), with Levi Gale (under-18s real tennis) and past member Harrison Yarnold (pentathlon and triathlon) also in British squads.

Trophies were then presented to the most improved sports people.

The winners were Maisie Herbert (mini tennis), Daisy Parsons (tennis and badminton), Ollie Lee (real tennis), Olivia Willmore (The Captain John Hughes Special Achievement Shield), Toby Reeves, Lucy Reeves and Katie Shaw (all swimming).
