A TOTAL of 10 teams from the Dorset area gathered at Lytchett Recreation Ground to take part in the club’s first-ever six-a-side tournament.
The teams were split into two leagues of five for the group stages and the top two in each qualified for the semi-finals.
Dorchester Tigers’ two teams finished second in their groups to reach the semis after some great football on a very hot day.
Every Dorchester player involved did themselves and their club proud, and the final ended up being between two teams from the county town.
In the first semi-final, the Tigers’ One team beat Lytchett in a penalty shoot-out after keeper Ben Macklin saved two penalties in a very close game.
Tom Johnson’s winning goal for Tigers Two in the other semi meant they reached the final after only conceding one goal.
In a very exciting, well-contested and well-supported final, Tigers One emerged victorious with a 2-1 win to lift the trophy .
Dorchester coach Colin Mead said had nothing but praise for the players who took part on the day.
He said: “It was fantastic to witness the skill, teamwork and sportsmanship on show and I would like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work and help in making the tournament such a success, especially all of the referees who kept going all day and did such a fantastic job.”
