THE Switched On Under-18 competition takes place next Sunday, July 20 at Martinstown Cricket Club.

Showcasing the finest cricketing talent in Dorchester and the surrounding area, the T20 tournament is in its sixth year since being re-established in 2009.

Defending champions Martin-stown take part in the first semi-final against Dorchester before 2012 winners Cerne Valley play Puddletown Those games start at 10.30am and 1.30pm respectively with the final set for 4.30pm.

Co-organiser Lee House said: “It’s great to see Puddletown re-enter the competition.

“There are four strong teams in the cup and I’m looking forward to watching spirited, yet competitive matches.

“There are some top players on display, with many of the youngsters playing in the higher adult leagues, and I encourage people to come along and watch.”

The 2013 competition was won by Martinstown with then captain Danny Way being crowned player of the competition after fine displays with bat and ball.

However, there were also top performances from Dorchester’s Marcus Evans and Cerne’s Pearce Mercer.

House added: “This competition wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the continued support of Ross Moors from Switched On Electrical Contractors.

“Ross prides himself on developing young talent and this cup certainly does that. I’m also grateful for the support of Rachel Bailey and the other members of the Dorchester & District Evening League committee, plus the umpires and Dave Cheffey for providing the trophies.”
