WITH rugby being a popular part of the school sports curriculum, Weymouth & Portland RFC organised a host of after-school matches.

In what is set to become an annual event, Years Seven, Eight and Nine girls of Budmouth and St Osmund’s showcased their skill, helping their development by competing in various head-to-head challenges.

The eventual victors were rewarded with a trophy and, on a cold and dark night under the floodlights, both boys and girls showed what they learnt in such a short time.

It was the Year Seven students who took to the field first with Budmouth beating St Osmund’s 30-10.

The benefits of practicing touch and contact rugby during school time was demonstrated through some good passing and support play.

The encounter between the Year Eight pupils saw St Osmund’s edge a close encounter in the final five minutes, as both sides displayed a great attitude on the day.

It was the marginally greater experience of the eventual winners that led to a 30-20 victory.

The final match came down to some great individual skill, with Budmouth edging a dramatic contest 25-20 after extra-time.
