LILY Kitto has been selected for the Great Britain Under-19 women’s team after impressing at county and regional trials.
The 17-year-old Yeovil and Sherborne Ladies ace’s selection makes up for last year when she could not take part in the trials due to torn hip ligaments.
“I was really excited to be picked for the Great Britain team,” she said. “It was a bit of a shock because I was injured for last year’s trials and couldn’t take part.
“My family are really proud. My dad started crying when I told him on the phone and my granddad got emotional too.”
As well as playing for two hockey teams, Kitto is also a junior national young coach and ambassador for England Hockey.
She encourages young people to participate in the sport and also coaches Yeovil and Sherborne Under-12s.
In recognition of her work, she was named Yeovil College Sportswoman of the Year at the Further Education awards in 2014.
Yeovil College coach Emma Ballard said: “We’re absolutely ecstatic for Lily.
“She’s worked so hard over the last two years to reach this level, a journey that was complicated by her injury last year. Big congratulations to her and well done.”
Kitto will now take part in training days in January, with the first fixtures for the Great Britain team a month later.
