YOUNGSTERS from across the region battled it out in the Dorset County Championships at Harewood College.

The under-12 boys’ singles event featured a fantastic final, with Walter Carswell and Matthew Stone fighting it out to be crowned champion.

Carswell eventually prevailed 13-15, 15-10, 15-8 in a tight three-setter and then added a doubles trophy to his collection by teaming up with Thomas Dickman to defeat the duo of St Osmund’s Warwick Dabbs and Wey Valley’s Reuben Stroud 15-9, 15-6.

The girls’ singles final featured Rhiannon Lockie and Sophia McCulloch, with the former claiming a 15-3, 15-6 victory.

In the under-14 category, Ben Jarvis took victory in both singles and doubles.

He saw off Jordan Alibhai 15-5, 15-2 in the boys’ final and then teamed up with his rival to beat Jack Camsooksai and Owen Griffiths 15-8, 15-7 in the doubles final.

The girls’ singles was won by Lily Stent who beat Bethany Fry 15-12, 15-11 in the final.

Both girls featured in the doubles, with Stent partnering younger sister Cherry to see off Fry and Jenny Yang 15-13, 15-12 to claim the trophy.

The under-16 semi-finals saw some very close games with Jack MacGregor overcoming David Higbee 16-18, 15-9, 19-17 and Matt Howcroft beating Tom Barton-Clapp 13-15, 15-14, 15-10.

MacGregor then beat Howcroft in the final 15-2, 15-7.

The duo linked up to win the doubles against Higbee and Barton-Clapp (15-11, 15-10).
