LEWESTON School pupil Elizabeth Tolley has been ranked as the number one biathlete in the world for her age group.

The Year Nine student was awarded by the UIPM (International Modern Pentathlon Union) as a result of points gained across the 2014 Biathle World Tour.

Tolley accumulated the highest number of points across the series of international events, leading to her being crowned the winner of the Youth C category, for girls aged 14-and-under.

The 2014 Biathle World tour was made up of a series of events around the world with races in Argentina and Cuba, as well as four races Elizabeth competed in.

She won in Pisa, Italy as well as Erding in Germany, and also travelled to the European Championships in Setubal near Lisbon, where she finished seventh.

She also came sixth in a series event in Weymouth. Director of sport at Leweston, Paul Miles, said: “It is a phenomenal achievement to be ranked number one in the world in any sport and this ranking is a testament to Elizabeth’s ability and the commitment she has shown to her rigorous training regime.

“It has been an astonishing few years for sport at Leweston, particularly for the multisport events.

“Six pupils, with Elizabeth leading the way, achieved a world ranking after their exploits for Great Britain in the Biathle World Tour.

“All of these girls are keen to follow current sixth former Rebecca Bowles on to the World Class Programme, and are certainly heading in the right direction.”
