DORCHESTER 60 SWANAGE & WAREHAM 15

THE size of the Swans’ forwards did not put off the Dorchester players as they emerged comfortable winners at home, despite a shaky start.

The county town youngsters faced a slightly outnumbered Swans team, but what they lacked in bodies, the visitors more than made up for in size.

With two forwards who towered over the entire Dorchester team, the Swans used these big players to great effect in the opening stages of the game.

Dorchester soon found themselves 10-0 down, having given their opponents too much space to run into.

After this slow start, the hosts soon woke up, pressed more in defence and started to force errors in the Swanage back line.

When the home team won clean ball, they showed flair and a willingness to run and pass the ball, despite the wet and windy conditions throughout.

The Swans managed to cross the Dorchester line just once more in the course of the first half by sticking to their game plan, but the skill of the hosts soon put them on top, scoring five tries to make it 30-15 at the break.

The second half saw some fresh legs come on for the home side and despite the visitors spending time close to the Dorchester line they couldn’t cross the whitewash.

Dorchester then capitalised on their tiring opponents and put together some great passages of play.

Five more second-half tries from the hosts were unanswered making the final score 60-15.

Try scorers: Jamie Stewart (2), Ethan Prestwood, Freddie Charles, Corey Waters, Jack Haslewood, Reuben Joliffe (2) and Kieran Heath (2).
