LYME Regis youngster Stuart Wight has scooped the Pukka Pads Junior Scratch Open at Parkstone Golf Club.

Wight followed his superb 66 in the morning round with a 70 in the afternoon for a score of 136 on the day to win the boys’ under-18 title. This proved to be just enough to pip Tom Atkins, playing on his home course, by two shots.

Wight was naturally delighted with his day’s work, for which he won £500 of golf vouchers, and paid a warm tribute in his acceptance speech to sponsors Pukka Pads and the staff at Parkstone GC for their efforts in hosting the day.

This is the fourth year the event has been held at the renowned Dorset course and the field of 48 competitors from all over the south served up some superb quality golf in testing conditions.

The boys’ under-16 crown was taken by Thomas Plumb from Sherborne, who posted scores of 70 and 72. Plumb’s margin of victory was narrow, as second place went to Adam Harris from Yeovil who carded two solid rounds of 70 and 73.

As for the girls, Charlotte Heeps was well rewarded for making the lengthy trip from Minchinhampton by securing the £250 first prize and the trophy with scores of 83 and 74.

  • Meanwhile, the junior medal at Lyme was won by the ever-improving Matt Watson with a score of nett 66.
