WEYMOUTH Cricket Club’s youth teams have completed all matches this season and will close the campaign with a family fun day on Bank Holiday Monday, at Redlands between 2-5pm.

The event will be sponsored by Buildrite and will be an improved version of a similar event that was staged by the club last summer.

There will be coaching, matches and skills challenges as well as a cricket equipment bring and buy sale.

The season was a good one for the under-15s who performed well in their league and made it to a cup final.

Players including Dom Webb, Tom Chedzoy and Joe James played regularly for the men’s second XI team and Dylan Ellis and Ned Hazel also had the call from the adult team and showed the development through the youth set-up.

Coach Gerald Marchant was delighted with the attitude and improvement shown by the squad this year.

The under-13s had a mixed season but overall everyone showed improvement and next season promises to be a good one.

Tom Anderson scored the most runs, closely followed by Tom Lydford, Ben Alford and Billy Baker.

The bowling honours also went to Anderson closely followed by captain Nathan Quinn, who was forced to miss a good deal of the season through injury.

The performances of Charlie Mussenden, Olly James, Dylan Ware, Olly Gordon and Sam Burton have shown there is great potential for the future in this age group.

Overall the club have almost 30 players registered at under-13 level which is a great improvement thanks to the efforts of coaches Pete Gordon and Andy Anderson.

The under-11s, led by Sai Maganti, had a good season winning plenty of games and always putting up a good display in their encounters.

Their leading players include youngsters Charlie Farwell, Taylor Edmunds, Eoin Kelly and Riley Ellis.

Also performing regularly to a high standard were Toby Trott, Leo Clarke and Tanay Maganti.

The under-9s had several competitive soft ball games and some great performances ensued with all players showing the potential to become quality cricketers in years to come.

  • The club’s family fun day is open to all, including people interested in trying out cricket. The Seasiders also extend their invitation to all family members. Telephone Hugh Lawes on 07747011730 for more information.
