WEYMOUTH excelled at the West Dorset Swimming Club Christmas Open Meet, held at the Dorchester Sports Centre.

The event was attended by clubs from across the region and provided an opportunity for great competition.

The meeting also provided swimmers with a chance to update their times and achieve qualifying times, for the all-important, forthcoming County Championships.

The Weymouth squad excelled to the challenge and all obtained personal bests, between the team of 10 (Sophie Abberley, Alice Adams, Ashleigh Browne, Jamiee Browne, Alasara James, Lewis Timms, Aidan Turner, Nial Turner, Aidan Watson and Jacob Watson), they racked up a total of 21 pbs.

Jacob Watson triumphed in the 10/11 age group, winning an incredible eight medals: he took the silver in 100m butterfly; 100m freestyle; 100m individual medley and bronze in 100m backstroke; 50m breaststroke; 50m backstroke; 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

His older brother Aidan Watson also produced an impressive performance in the 12/13 age group, taking the gold in the 50m butterfly; silver in 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle and a bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Brothers Aidan and Nial Turner added to Weymouth’s medal collection, Aidan taking a silver in the 16-andover 100m breaststroke and bronze 50m breaststroke and Nial the 14/15 age group silver for 100m butterfly and bronze for 50m backstroke.

For the girls, Alice Adams won two silver in the 12/13 age group for 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley while Alasara James claimed two bronze, also in the 12/13 age group for 100m individual medley and 50m freestyle.
