ALL Saints School’s Year Eights have won the County Cup at the Avenue Stadium.

They beat St Michael’s Middle School, from Wimborne, 2-0 in a very competitive match, with both teams playing some excellent football.

After missing an earlier chance, Cody Sparrow then made amends and opened the scoring on 16 minutes following a one-on-one with the keeper.

Although there were no chances for the rest of the half, both teams played some very attractive football, with both defences keeping their attackers at bay with some strong tackling, in particular Ethan Lawrence. All Saints’ centre-backs Mattias Hansson and captain Ollie James played exceptionally well and were solid.

The second half started well for All Saints, who had the majority of the possession with some excellent play between midfielders Devin Fry, George Stuttle and Zane Samways.

Striker Archie Woolford was then put through on goal with an superb through ball from midfielder Joe Woodhouse but unluckily hit a post with a shot across the keeper.

St Michael’s manager then made a few changes to his team which initially worked giving them their best period of the game. However, goalkeeper Harry Rupp commanded his area and was never troubled.

The trophy was moved nearer to the All Saints’ dugout when Sparrow was taken out in the box and the referee awarded a penalty.

Sparrow confidently placed the ball on the spot and slotted his penalty straight into the bottom right corner giving the keeper no chance.

Then the heavens opened with a 15-minute period of hail and thunder and there were concerns the game would be abandoned.

Thankfully the hail stopped and All Saints continued to dominate with great defending from Ethan Clarke and Travis Reynolds and eventually ran out as 2-0 winners.
