SOUTHSIDE Angels Girls had the warmth and security of indoors as they kicked off their opening session as Weymouth’s first specialist girls’ football club.

Eight youngsters braved the freezing conditions to get to All Saints’ School, Weymouth, where they received training from coaches Marc Day and Mark Allen, as well as current Yeovil Town Ladies’ goalkeeper Rachel Simkin.

The Angels intend to field two teams in the Dorset Girls’ League next season and, with the aid of a grant from Sport England, will be able to keep ongoing training costs to a bare minimum.

“I was really pleased that eight girls turned up considering the weather that night,” said Day. “It was nice Rachel came along so the girls could have coaching from a female as well.”

The first four sessions are free, with the club eager to fundraise in a bid to help that continue.

More players are being encouraged to join the club and can do so by calling either Day on 823826 or Allen on 772089.
