Harriers' boys are Hot Shots

WEYMOUTH Hot Shots won the under-13 boys’ section as Weymouth St Paul’s Harriers finished their season with a successful event at the Osprey Centre, Portland.

Weymouth Wizards, the Harriers’ other under-13 boys’ team, finished sixth on the day, while the two under-13 girls’ teams tied for fifth in their section.

There were also several personal achievements, including a new personal best for Lochlan Fraser in the under-13 boys’ shot of 4.47 metres – a distance that won the event and his team 26 points.

In the 1x1 lap, Rhys Roper and Luke Strong came second while Fraser and Jonas Vick were timed at 34.8 seconds.

Bailey Roper gained 19 points with a time of 30.4secs in the two-lap while in the four-lap race Rhys Roper, Strong and Jamie King totalled 60 points between them. Jake Pitney was second in the six-lap event with a time of 1 minute 14.5 seconds.

Luke Bennett and Lee Manning were second in Paarlauf and the Hot Shots’ 4x2 lap relay team of Luke Bassett, King, Pitney and Bailey Roper also finished just one place off the lead.

Mark Strudwick, Fraser, Vick and Manning came third in the circuit relay with a time of 1min 59.3secs.

Rhys Roper, Strong, Pitney and King gleaned a huge 75 points in the standing long jump for the Hot Shots and the Wizards while Manning was second in the vertical jump and Bailey Roper third in the standing triple jump.

In the final under-13 boys’ event, the extremely tiring Speed Bounce provided seventh and eighth for Vick and Strudwick respectively.

The non-scoring under-11 girls had good finishes in the 1x1 lap with Jessica Austen and Jodie Clarke finishing in ninth, two places ahead of Zoe Allan and Emily Jewszel, but the two under-13 girls’ teams of Weymouth Wonders and Weymouth Cool Runners tied for fifth.

Saxon Roy was again outstanding for the Wonders with second in the standing long jump with 2.05m – just 1cm behind the winner – and third in the two-lap.

Also in the two-lap, Kelly Allan was seventh for the Wonders while Hannah Westhenry and Clarke totalled 20 points for the Cool Runners. Two powerful performances by Hannah Grey and Jennifer Breslin amassed a further 31 points.

On an increasingly slippery floor, Lauryn Montrose tied sixth place in the six-lap race with Elinor Mason.

The PaarLauf showed Charlotte Lidgely-Ryan and Sinead Saddington at their best with second place for the Wonders and, for the Cool Runners, Emily Fraher and Holleigh Breslin finished sixth with Sophia Jewszel and Lucy Fennell two places further back.

In the 4x2 lap, Lidgley-Ryan, Saddington, Mason and Rankin finished fourth. Kelly Allan, Grey, Jennifer Breslin and Roy were seventh for the Wonders.

The Cool Runners’ squads of Montrose, Natasha Faulkner, Westhenry and Savannah Evans; Sophia Jewszel, Fennell, Holleigh Breslin and Fraher; and Zoe Allan, Clarke, Emily Jewszel and Austen finished strongly.

Kelly Allan was sixth for the Wonders in the standing long jump with Fraher and Emily Jewszel collecting 25 points for the Cool Runners. Mason finished eighth with 4.90m in the standing long jump for the Wonders with the Cool Runners picking up 27 points from Holleigh Breslin and Zoe Allan.

The shot found Evans and Montrose adding 36 points for the Cool Runners with Holleigh Breslin finishing with 15 points for the Wonders.

Fennell, Grey and Sophia Jewszel were in good form in the speed bounce, claiming 37 points between them.

Abi Strong’s fine Sportshall year saw her finish seventh overall for the season, just one point behind sixth.

She cemented her position with fine performances on the final day in the two-lap, standing long jump and shot, coming in fifth, fifth and fourth respectively.

The Harriers are still in training at Budmouth Community Centre on Tuesdays but will return to the Marsh for their usual club night on Tuesday, March 30, from 6pm.
