BROCKENHURST BLUES 4 WEYMOUTH TERRAS 1
AFTER this top-of-the-table clash the destiny of the title now lies in the hands of Brockenhurst as the Terras tasted defeat for only the second time this season.
The hosts showed their intent straight from the kick-off when only a last-ditch Jack Jolliffe tackle prevented a certain goal and then keeper Adam Purchase parried an effort past a post after a dazzling burst past four Terras players.
With Weymouth firmly on the back foot Purchase was again called into action, diving full stretch to keep out another effort, while an Elvie Purnell header that failed to trouble the home goal was the only Terras effort of note.
The inevitable first goal came on seven minutes when the Terras stood off another solo run and only another Purchase save and clearance over his own bar by Jolliffe prevented an immediate second.
With Weymouth under constant pressure another Brockenhurst effort was disallowed for offside before they drew further ahead on 10 minutes when an unchallenged effort flew in.
With Weymouth having to significantly up their game to compete, while relying on the counter-attack, Tyler Chapman broke free on 20 minutes but was well tackled as he was about to pull the trigger. However, his individual run and shot into the far corner a few minutes later reduced the arrears.
With the Terras bouyed by their goal it was then unfortunate that they conceded a third with the last kick of the first half when Brockenhurst made it 3-1 from the penalty spot.
The visitors started the second period on the attack and made several inroads towards the Brockenhurst goal, forcing the keeper to smother at the feet of Jack Chatfield and to comfortably save a Jolliffe long-range effort.
However, it was Brockenhurst who found the all-important goal when their forward calmly found the net to notch their fourth midway through the half.
To their credit the Terras competed to the end but were unable to add to their tally as Brockenhurst ran out worthy victors.
