High fives after Trinity triumph

CHAMPIONS: Holy Trinity did not concede a single goal on their way to winning the South Dorset Indoor Five-a-side Championship CHAMPIONS: Holy Trinity did not concede a single goal on their way to winning the South Dorset Indoor Five-a-side Championship

HOLY Trinity Primary School beat Conifers Primary to lift the South Dorset Indoor Five-a-side Championship.

The former ran out 4-0 winners in the final at Weymouth College against a Conifers team made up of mainly Year Five boys – two of which play for AFC Bournemouth and reached the final last year as Year Four pupils.

Conifers reached the indoor finals when they qualified from the Weymouth area competition, beating St Augustine’s 4-2, St Andrew’s 3-0 and Radipole 5-0.

Prior to their defeat to Holy Trinity, the runners-up got the better of Southill 6-0, St George’s 2-0 and St Mary’s Puddletown Middle 2-0.

Holy Trinity were made favourites as they had a team consisting of Year Six boys, which had defeated St Osmund’s Middle 1-0, Radipole 6-0 and St Nicholas & St Laurence Primary 4-0 en route to the final.

South Dorset Sports Association chairperson and Conifers team manager Don Whistance said: “The South Dorset Sports Association has been running such sporting competitions for many years on a voluntary basis and they have been supported enthusiastically by all the teachers in the South Dorset Area.

“Sport will survive in this area, whether it is competitive or in the form of festivals, as these championships proved on a cold evening in January, which was superbly refereed by Ben Heath and his team of assistants.”

Holy Trinity and Conifers will meet again this Friday in the final of the seven-a-side competition.
