Darryl kicking out for a WAKO gold

GOLD medals may just be a few kicks and back flips away for a young martial arts prodigy from Weymouth.
Darryl Escott, 16, who lives in Chickerell, is taking part in the Musical Forms Mixed Martial Arts competition, a world championship event hosted by the World Amateur Kickboxing Organisation (WAKO).
He said: "I got into the competition through my team, Resurrection.
"At the qualifiers, I was competing against ten other people. For the world championships I'll be up against 30 other people."
Escott added that he is excited about the event, which has not been set a date yet but will be held in Derby. The event is a combination of gymnastics and martial arts.
He has been taking part in gymnastics for 11 years and kickboxing for four years.
Team Resurrection has been established for a year and is a team of four people based in Yeovil.
The quartet train in martial arts every weekend as well as performing public demonstrations.
Escott is studying for a sport BTEC, which is the equivalent of four A-Levels, at Budmouth Technology College.
He lives with his mother Carol, his father Simon and his siblings Jake, 11 and Emma, 21.
As well as his studies and his involvement with Team Resurrection, Escott also coaches boys gymnastics at Dorchester YMCA.
WAKO is an organisation for amateur kickboxing which started activity in Europe in 1976 and has held championships on the continent ever since.
In WAKO championships, each country can present only one competitor for each weight group, making that person their premier representative.
