SIXTY athletes from the Dorset Pentathletes team will be taking part in the South West Biathlon at Millfield School on Sunday.
The team will cover seven age categories with 18 teams of three in the various age events.
The biathlon is a swim/run event over different distances depending on age with a break between the disciplines.
From this event the top two teams and best six individuals from each age category male and female will qualify for the British National Championships at Macclesfield on May 18.
Last year the Dorset Pentahletes, who are coached by Mick Flaherty, were the top team at the regional and national championships with nine teams and 30 individuals at nationals.
Flaherty said: "This year the aim is to have 11 teams and 36 individuals qualify for the National Championships with many of the teams and individuals winning the regional championships."
Some of the athletes who have a chance of winning or getting a top three place in their age categories are: Tom Crew, Niall Laming, Joanna Pucket, Tom Mules, Conner Aitken, (Tornadoes of South Dorset); Beth Whittal (Weymouth SC); Peter Horne, Hugh Ireland, James Dawson, Laura Chitty (West Dorset Warriors); Melissa Courtney, Gracie Howie (Poole SC).
The squad are also looking to be crowned team winners in many of the categories.
