Under-14 Division Two
WEYMOUTH VICTORIA 2 LYTCHETT RT 1
VICTORIA came out on top in this must-win game and kept alive their promotion hopes as third met second.
The game remained deadlocked for the first 20 minutes, although Lytchett signalled their intent early on forcing Alvey into a fine save.
It was the visitors who took the lead though, when Victoria failed to close down a forward.
The hosts never looked comfortable on the ball, with their frustration evident as they struggled to find their normal flowing game.
However, they came out in the second half showing more purpose and created some good chances, with Rawlings unlucky on several occasions.
But Victoria got their break when Parsons was brought down ten yards outside the box.
Roberts fired in a superbly struck free-kick which left the visiting keeper with little chance.
Victoria continued to look the more likely to add to their tally, although Lytchett were always dangerous on the counter-attack, but the back four held firm with some superb last-ditch tackles from Sers.
With ten minutes left Afedakis caught the ball on the volley from 30-yards and his effort dipped in just under the crossbar.
The visitors battled hard, but Victoria now with their heads up controlled the game and were unlucky not to get a third just before the end when Rawlings beat the keeper from a narrow angle only to see the ball roll agonisingly wide.
Under-14 Division Three
PURBECK PANTHERS 3 WEYMOUTH EAGLES 12
THE Eagles kept up their promotion hopes with a resounding victory over the Panthers.
Assisted by a goalkeeper in excellent form, Purbeck put up a sturdy defence in the first half but were no match for the in-form visitors, who dominated possession and went in 4-1 up at half-time.
The Eagles kept up the pressure in the second half, Purbeck wilting somewhat under the barrage, and passed the ball around with increasing confidence.
Although Purbeck managed to net twice more, four goals by Aidan Richards and Elliot Stone, and one apiece by Matt Stickley, Jacob Wilcock, James Wall and Harry Baker from the penalty spot, completed a convincing win.
