SCORED WELL: Members of Dorchester YMCA's gymnastics team, above, and right
EIGHT gymnasts from Dorch-ester YMCA battled it out in the Women's Artistic County Floor and Vault championships at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Poole.
The first session of the morning saw six of the club's gymnasts competing against one another in a tough field.
Natalie Burden, Jessica Hughes, Amy Lillington, Caitlin Chapman, Imogen Slade and Lily Beasley all competed excellently. Burden finished with
the highest vault score while Hughes was unlucky not to take home a medal, coming sixth and missing out by just 0.16.
Coach Jodie Membury said: "This was a very difficult group with some good gymnasts and all our girls have scored well. One senior judge came up to us and commented on what a pleasure it was to judge our gymnasts."
The day's second session saw the YMCA's Toni Bugler and Holly O'Flanagan, in different age groups, begin their challenge for medals.
Both girls put in good performances on the floor but excelled on the vault with Bugler, like Burden before her, scoring highest in that particular discipline.

O'Flanagan stole the day though, placing second overall in her group, in only her second competition.
Senior club coach Julie Membury said: "We are very proud of all the girls who competed. The doors opened at 8am so to be here so early and perform so well shows excellent commitment."
Meanwhile, Dorchester YMCA celebrated the maiden performance of its new display squad. The newly christened Scorpio Display team performed as part of a dance show held in Weymouth.
The line up, which is made up of both male and female gymnasts, wowed the crowed with round-off flics and a choreographed fight scene.
Julie Membury added: "We have been performing as a club at summer fetes and open days for years. We felt it was time we set up a specific session for a display team and we will now perform at shows throughout the year."
The YMCA runs gymnastic classes throughout the school terms.
