MIDFIELD BATTLE: Weymouth Warriors and Weymouth Eagles (yellow) Under-12s
THE Eagles ended their season on a high by defeating league champions Weymouth Wanderers.
The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute through Tom Arliss and just two minutes later they grabbed another one through a fine volley from Mark Lawrence.
The Wanderers replied by testing Eagles' keeper Matthew Brown on several occasions but he kept them at bay and in the 27th minute his side made it 3-0 through Hamish Smith who latched on to a clearance from Ashley Rees.
Following half-time the unbeaten table-toppers did everything they could to get back in the game and thanks to two strikes from Sean Bower they reduced the deficit.
However, the Eagles held on in the final ten minutes by playing some of the best team football they have produced all season.
At the final whistle both sides were applauded off the pitch with Wanderers completing a lap of honour to celebrate their title success.
