Wey Valley pack a punch with club

SCHOOL LINK: Weymouth coach Mark Ford with Wey Valley pupils

WEY Valley School and Sports College have joined forces with Weymouth Amateur Boxing Club.

Pupils are being given the chance to benefit from the sport and they have been receiving expert teaching from ABA coach Mike Ford.

He said: "I was more than happy to get involved. Hopefully we as a club will benefit because we could find some future champions.

"I boxed at school level and in the army. It helped with me with my fitness and discipline and I'm sure boxing will help these youngsters in their lives."

Stuart Heath, head of PE at Wey Valley, added: "The arrangement is that we take a group of pupils to train at the club for one hour a week after school and we have also set up a boys and girls club at the school with the help of Mark.

"We believe that boxing can develop and improve discipline, self-esteem and health and fitness. It is a non-contact activity and we make sure those pupils involved are aware that their work and behaviour in school must be excellent for them to take part."

Anyone interested in receiving personal training from Ford can contact him on 07799332729.
