THOMAS Hardye School pupil and basketball ace Vince Van Nes has won a call-up to the England Under-16s squad.
The Southampton Trailblazer will train with the rest of the squad in preparation for the European Championships and will also be involved in a clash against Ireland at the BBL Finals Weekend which is due to take place at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on May 3 and 4.
The junior international will take place on the Saturday at 1pm and is seen as an integral part of the team's build up to their FIBA Europe Under-16 Boys European Championship B Division campaign, which will see the squad travel to Sarajevo, Bosnia on August 15.
In the group stage of that tournament England will come up against Slovenia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania and Switzerland. The Irish are also in the European B Division and could be potential opponents for England later in the competition.
England Under-16s' head coach, Simon Fisher, said: "The England Cadet Team are continuing to build towards this year's European B' Championships and looking to build on the excellent fourth place finish last year.
"The opportunity for the players to experience playing in a big arena will be invaluable in preparation for the venues at the Europeans."
