Terras in double delight
CHAMPION TERRAS: Weymouth Under-11s on the ball against Poole Town
CHAMPION TERRAS: Weymouth Under-11s on the ball against Poole Town

Under-11 Division One

POOLE TOWN 3 WEYMOUTH 5

WEYMOUTH secured the league title to add to their County Cup triumph in a tense but thrilling encounter with arch-rivals Poole Town.

The Terras needed to win while a draw would have sufficed for Poole to be crowned champions.

The visitors started slowly but soon found their feet and began to play some of their best football of the campaign. Luke Chatterton and Fabien Paterkin were causing the home defence numerous problems with their intelligent running while Daragh MacDonagh, Jack Simpson and Jack Styles began to exert control in the middle of the pitch.

Weymouth took the lead when Nick Voss turned in a Simpson corner and they went two ahead when Voss fired home following a great move down the left.

Poole pulled one back following a controversial offside decision but Weymouth picked themselves up and scored a third through the outstanding Charlie Jones.

However, a momentary lapse in concentration allowed Poole to score on the stroke of half-time from a well-taken corner.

Weymouth began the second half well as Jones, Voss, Chatterton and Peterkin created numerous chances with some brilliant fast-flowing football.

But another controversial decision allowed Poole back into the game. The referee awarded a penalty for a great ball-winning tackle and the advantage was now back with the home side as the score stood at 3-3. Weymouth, however, showed the resilience and battling attitude that has been the hallmark of their play all season and refused to be affected by the decisions not going their way.

The defence trio of Eli Cranny, Owen Etherington and Aidan Glover were superb as Poole pushed forward in search of a winner.

Weymouth, however, refused to be beaten and went ahead as Voss notched his hat-trick with a great finish at the far post.

Again Poole tried to find their way back into the game and had a great chance to equalise with a low shot that appeared to be heading for the corner of the net. However, Weymouth's talented keeper Harry Reynolds pulled off a brilliant one-handed save diving to his left.

As the tension mounted Weymouth were awarded a penalty following a handball in the box. Simpson coolly slotted the ball home to make the scoreline 5-3.

Weymouth held out for the final minutes thanks to some superb tackling by MacDonagh, Cranny, Glover, Harry Munson and the ever-impressive Etherington.

Manager Tim Davis said: "This was a brilliant display from an outstanding bunch of players. They rose to the occasion and Weymouth should be immensely proud of them.

"They have won the double and it was down to every player in the squad who has contributed throughout the season."

Double winning squad: Harry Reynolds, Eli Cranny, Owen Etherington, Connor Aitken, Jack Simpson, Charlie Jones, Daragh MacDonagh, Jack Styles, Nick Voss, Luke Chatterton, Fabien Paterkin, Aidan Glover, Harry Munson, Jacob Nutman, Michael Hernandez.
