I was one of those drivers guilty of driving more than 30 miles an hours entering Chideock in October 2002. At that time we were only passing through Dorset and not living in Weymouth.
Since living here, I have used the road often and realise how necessary that camera is, in an effort to slow traffic down before entering the village.
Regarding the recent finding regarding the possible repayment of any fine paid going back 10 years, just because the name of the road was incorrect, in no way takes away the fact that I was speeding.
Why therefore should I or anyone else be entitled to or expect repayment of points or fines? We received them as the direct consequences of our own actions.
Someone will have to foot the bill for the repayment of fines, be it through council tax or central funding, but however it is done, the taxpayer will be funding it.
Many of these people have never been guilty of speeding or they may even be non-drivers.
Reading the report in The Echo, it commiserated with those who had been banned from driving because of the cumulative number of points they had received.
Again, this is a strange view as those people were already aware that they were dangerously close to receiving a ban if they were caught again, and they should therefore have been far more careful!
They, and I, were still speeding!
In this day and age, so many refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.
I will not be applying for a refund and I hope that many others involved will think hard about it and accept that they were fairly caught on camera - the name of the road on which that camera is sited in no way changes that fact!
