An act of vandalism is taking place on Weymouth seafront perpetrated by the council.
Some of the shelters on the sea front were last year held in high esteem by the council as part of the regeneration scheme.
They are being taken down because the Government bailed out the bankers and have no money to give to the Regional Development Agency to fund our regeneration of the area.
The idea that taking them down will stop the vagrants living in a shelter is, of course, nonsense as they will just move to the next shelter.
Only last year the council was proposing to block the view of Weymouth Bay by building an eight-story hotel totally blocking the horizon and the Nothe Fort at this point.
I am sure that the novelty rock emporium owners have a point which I do respect. But why not just say ‘we can’t afford to repair them so we are taking them down’?
Will the council replace them with bench seating for our visitors?
No of course not, we need to hire out deckchairs.
