Enough of Weymouth's unwanted roadworks

I’m sure I speak for the rest of the population of the Portland and Weymouth area when I say enough is enough.

People are losing too much of their lives sitting in the traffic chaos caused by the ‘Weymouth Traffic Package’.

Who is the person who is in charge? Who will come to the media and explain to the population of the borough why this is happening.

It takes in excess of two hours during the day to get from Dorchester to Portland by bus. It can take in excess of one and a half hours to get from Dorchester to Portland, driving oneself, leaving at 5pm.

Has the extra pollution caused by all these extra vehicle hours been taken into consideration?

The planning for this project is pitiful to put it bluntly – why did it all have to be done at once?

Why did it have to be done in the summer, the busiest time of the year?

What does this chaos transmit to our lifeblood, the visitors?

I may not be a rocket scientist but surely the project could have been addressed in a simpler way, ie one roundabout at a time.

Why remove them anyway – the traffic flow would have been improved just by making them bigger and marking the traffic lanes properly.

Less traffic control is better. This has already been proven in Holland, fewer accidents, better traffic flow, less stress, less pollution, etc.

It is amazing that up till now that there have been no major road rage incidents, or lawsuits regarding loss of business, but I wouldn’t be surprised if these came along in the near future.

Personally, I have been using the Rodwell Avenue and Town Bridge rat-run in the mornings. What muppet ever thought that making that two-way would work?

I notice that the bridge surface is again looking very worn again. No doubt, if we ever get back to some sort of normality, that will have to be closed for weeks again so that we can all watch the inept attempts at resurfacing it (or maybe that starts next week?).

Also, who thought they would be able to stop traffic by just putting signs up at Lynch Lane? What did they think they were going to achieve by stopping traffic using it anyway?

Good Lord, man. Don't go giving them ideas. I blame myself entirely for the Swannery Bridge mess - one comment made in jest and the whole town goes down the swannee...

Yes, that's another fine mess you've got us into. And if they take up your suggestion of a Cheryl Cole statue you'll definitely be asked to leave town..

I wonder what line of work you two are in, i'm sure you all have the answers or perhaps you are just perpetual moaners...
What do you suggest ? just go back to dirt tracks and ponies.

I don’t know what you’re expecting from all of these roadwork’s but I fear you are in for one hell of a shock if you think that all of this disruption is going to lead to an improvement, It might surprise you to know that change isn’t always for the better as most of the changes around Weymouth prove.

ECHO! Please, for the love of your chosen deity, stop printing letters which simply repeat questions that have already been asked and answered umpteen times over the last few months!
.
Also could you clarify if the letter was edited to be be deliberately garbled and incoherent or was it left as the author intended? Inquiring minds need to know; it gives us something to apart from reading the "Me and My Important Thoughts" page every day.

As a resident i have the right to moan about the wanton destruction and the insanely waste of money on a project that will have no benefit to the community, do people actually think that they are going to be any better off, Weymouth never had a traffic problem in the first place so what can they hope to achieve. When people are sat at our new traffic lights they will think back to our lovely roundabouts and cringe when they realise that instead of being sat there like lemons they would have been down the road already. Our roundabouts worked better than traffic lights ever will all that needed sorting was the Asda and King St problems.

All these letters moaning about the roadworks are only going to get worse. I don't know whether anyone has been onto DCC's website recently but there are some interesting facts on there. At the moment there are in the region of 30 different roadwork sites in the borough all in progress. One would assume that it is these that all the letters are about. If you delve a bit deeper you will find that between now and July 2011 there are another 160 roadwork sites already planned.
Now thats GOT to be something to moan about. Best of luck everyone. Also on their website they have an interactive map which shows all the proposed roadworks. You can't see Weymouth because of all the roadwork signs

Interestingly there was a report on BBC South Today last night about this topic. The council in Shinfield in Berkshire have just replaced 2 roundabouts there with traffic lights and the local paople have complained that the traffic hold ups are even worse than before. So much so that the council are supposedly going to take a survey to see if this is true. It was also intimated that the reason they did this was to stop traffic going through Shinfield. Could this be our councils reasoning for these traffic lights? It would probably make the traffic lights seem to be working well if there is no traffic going through Weymouth to or from Portland. Food for thought!!!!
