Architecture is hardly classical

I can only applaud the planning inspector’s decision to turn down the proposed building of flats on the Old Fire Station site which would overwhelm the nearby character buildings.

I assume the buildings being referred to are the beautiful 1960s architecture of the WPBC Offices next door.

Or could it be the Guggenheim-inspired flats on the corner of Boot Hill or the wonderful flats already overlooking the harbour at Chapelhay? Maybe I am mistaken completely and he was looking at the grand superstore with its new 21st-century car park or even the inspired buildings of the DHSS/Law Courts complex.

The gas tanks would, of course, be completely overshadowed by these crude new flats as would the probation hostel.

Maybe I am looking at the wrong side of the harbour and the character buildings being alluded to are Wilkinsons, Debenhams, Cineworld or the superb multi-story car park.

As far as the new fire station is concerned, this was granted consent as it is obviously totally in keeping with the surrounding area.
