My name is John Simpson. I worked with Tony for a good number of years on the union side. He was an enormous support to the UKAEA and AEA Technology union activities and had the most focused and analytical mind I have ever come across. It would not be stretching a point too much to say he saved the AEA Technology pension scheme almost single handed. Despite many difficult times we were all very fond of Tony and have many good memories. May he rest in peace.

Tony Wickett was a Junior Research Fellow in Astrophysics when I arrived at Wolfson College, Oxford in 1978. I rowed with him in a novice coxed four at Danson Dashes in 1979. Tony was ingrained into the Wolfson Committee system. This is where he learned his mastery of politics. He was Chairman of the College's Bar Committee and recruited me to become Bar Manager and ,later, Chairman of the Bar Committee. Tony mentored me and was a good friend. RIP The photo shows him standing and in conversation with a fellow student at Eights Week in the early 1980s.
