THE summer holidays are long gone and the children at Broadmayne First School are settling into their new classes.

The new reception children are also settling in and becoming part of a happy school and as many will know, this term sees the appointment of a new head teacher, Mrs Melanie Austin.

The children are busy preparing for Harvest Festival which will take place on Monday, October 20 in St Martin's Church.

All the children participate in the celebrations and the harvest produce will be available to buy after the service.

The school will also be exploring healthy lunches, helping the children to appreciate the variety of healthy foods available and give them the opportunity to try something new.

The PTFA recently held a fund raising concert on the school grounds starring Ben Waters and his band.

The event was held on a damp friday evening but the weather did little to dampen the spirits as the gig was attended by hundreds of people from far and wide who enjoyed a fabulous late summer open air performance on a specially erected stage on the school field.

The planning for such a large scale fund raiser was incredibly hard work for a dedicated team of parents and helpers, coordinated by Jon Prestwood.

The money raised so far is in excess of £3000 which will go a long way to securing the future of the school’s swimming facilities.

Organisers were very grateful for generous sponsorship of the event from Build Center, Peugeot Loders, G. Crook & Sons, Norbury Plasterers, GW Electrical Distributors, JDP(Pipewise) and Hanson Aggregate.
