DUE to the closure of Broadmayne Road from the Ridgeway, the parish council was informed that the Gas Pipeline Storage Unit will not be at Broadmayne but close to West Stafford Farm.

In addition to the regular monthly financial statement, there were several financial items on the agenda.

The parish council did not feel able to make a grant to Dorset Cruse Bereavement Care.

It received the report of the internal auditor and was pleased that there were no matters brought to its attention.

It also received a report from the clerk and responsible financial officer on the 2008-2009 accounts and approved them and after answering questions on the external audit form, it was signed.

Council gave permission for a tenant to put a 6’ x 4’ shed on his allotment.

Although there is no legal requirement for parish councils to do so, the parish council considered points raised by parishioners at the recent annual parish meeting.

One of the issues was dog mess outside the school.

It is to be hoped that the posters made by the pupils and put up on the fence outside the school will remind dog owners about picking up mess.

District Councillor Alan Thacker, who is a school governor, was asked to report on the matter to the next governors’ meeting and if the situation does not improve, then a co-ordinated approach from the parish council, governors and PTFA to the dog warden was agreed.

The second issue involved speeding, which is a problem not only on Main Street but also in Knighton Lane.

The parish council will be writing to the county council to ask it to reconsider its decision on reducing the speed limit near the school in Knighton Lane, in view of the recent government policy to support 20 mph outside schools.

The county council will also to be asked to consider the use of flashing lights near the school, to be used only during term time and at the beginning and end of the school day.

The clerk was asked to obtain further information about the cameras used at Winterborne Whitechurch and Milborne St Andrew and then write to the county council.

No action was proposed at present in respect of a community speed watch scheme.

The clerk was asked to contact BT about the state of the telephone box.

Thanks go to the county council for creating white lines on the corner of Rectory Road/Chalky Road by the post box and notice board, so that the demarcation of the pavement is now clearly marked.

It is to be hoped that no more parishioners will be “singed” by turning cars.

The council endorsed the recommendation of the interview panel on the candidate to whom the post of clerk should be offered.

Further details will appear in the next edition of Compass.

Councillor Jury drew the attention of the meeting to potholes in Knighton Lane and the clerk has been asked to deal with it.

Judges will be visiting the village at the beginning of July to receive a two hour presentation in respect of the Best Community Village.

The next meeting of the council is Monday, July 6 2009 at 7.30pm in the hall at the back of the methodist church and parishioners are welcome to attend and speak by arrangement with the chairman.
