BUCKLAND NEWTON CHALK Legends: This is a large scale music, dance and multi-media event, finding ways of making 2012 a particularly special year since it is the Olympic year!

Based in Dorset, they have also inspired the Dorchester Choral Society who performs a piece of Chalk Legends in the village on Monday, June 25 at 7pm.

This free concert is part of the DCS’s outreach programme which aims to bring a variety of music to the wider public.

A selection of works by Purcell, Byrd, Mudd and Bruckner as well as American blues and traditional jazz will delight the audience so don’t miss out and bring a friend along as well!

This concert will take place in the Holy Rood Church, The Chalk Legends itself culminates in a spectacular massive event at the National Sailing Academy in Portland.

LYDDEN Vale Gardening Club: The next outing takes place on Wednesday, June 20.

It will be a visit to Stanbridge Mill, a garden created in the 1990’s around an 18th century water mill on the river Allen.

Stanbridge Mill is situated in Gussage All Saints, BH21 5EP.

The cost for this outing is £ 5, do come along since this garden is only open by appointment.

OPEN Gardens will take place on Sunday, June 24 in the village this year.

You will not only have the opportunity to admire a goodly number of beautiful gardens but also two wildflower meadows and be able to buy plants and local produce.

Ice Cream will also be on offer as well as teas and other refreshments.

The entrance is £ 3.50 to include all gardens, parking is ample and free.

The gardens will be open between 1pm – 6pm with all proceeds to be divided between Julia’s House and the Holy Rood Church.

OLD Chapel Stores: The Muddy Petticoat Shop upstairs now offers gorgeous clothes for children, not least due to Belle and Boo, a company from Bristol and recent addition to the designers represented in The Muddy Petticoat Shop.

NETHER CERNE A BARN Dance will take place at Nether Cerne on Saturday, June 30 at 7:30pm.

The village has hosted quite a few barn dances now so come along and enjoy a live band, pint and a pasty in a beautiful barn setting.

Tickets are £ 15 in advance from Cerne Abbas Stores or £ 17 on the door.

SYDLING ST. NICHOLAS DOLLENS Farm is a working, organic farm who also contributes to “getting the message across”.

Come and see Dollens Farm in action – enjoy a tractor and trailer tour of the farm, followed by a ploughman’s lunch.

There will be the opportunity to ask any questions you like and you even get to see the milking!

Children are particularly encourage to attend.

The day begins at 10:30am and everyone interested is urged to book in advance.

The cost for this farm visit is £ 10 per adult, £ 5 per child and £ 25 for a family.

CERNE ABBAS A DATE for your diaries: You will have read an update in this column on a few occasions regarding a certain Godmanstone resident, Peter Gostelow.

Peter has been undertaking a “Big Africa Cycle”, on his own covering over 20,000 miles whilst cycling from the village to Cape Town, South Africa.

He will be sharing this incredible experience with a talk in Cerne Abbas Village Hall on Saturday, July 28.

Interest is bound to be great so make sure you buy your ticket in time!
