GIANT Social: The next date for the Giant Social is Friday, August 10.
Anyone who is registered with Cerne Abbas Surgery is welcome to join this friendly gathering, organised by the nursing team and headed by Jill.
This month’s talk will be led by the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, giving everyone deeper insight into their vital work.
The Giant Social starts at 3pm in the Village Hall, refreshments will be provided for a small fee of £ 1.
Repeat prescriptions can also be issued there – but be sure to inform the surgery two days beforehand.

LITERATURE Group: Another course lies ahead this autumn, entitled “Literature Across the Pond: Six American and Canadian Classics”.
The course starts on Tuesday, October 2 at 2:30pm in the Village Hall and ends on Tuesday, November 13.
The following books will be discussed: “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” (1852), “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” (1884), “The Great Gatsby” (1925), “The Grapes of Wrath” (1939), “Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant” (1982) and “The Blind Assassin” (2000).

HORTICULTURAL Society: The Annual Show will be held on Saturday, August 11.
Classes are open to all who live in the Cerne Valley, doors open at 2pm.
Please make sure you submit your entry by 6pm, Wednesday, August 8.

PHOTOGRAPHIC display: The Cerne Photogroup has decided to showcase their work throughout August in St. Mary’s Church.
The aim is to dispel the still harnessed belief that photography is merely technical aptitude and to emphasise the fact that it can be a great art.
Why not come and view their work and make up your own mind?
Entrance is free.

 

THEATRE Club: This season’s last outing takes place on Saturday, August 18.
“Absurd Person Singular” is a highly recommended comedy by Alan Ayckbourne and should make for a very entertaining matinee.
Please join in at the next coffee morning at the Royal Oak on Monday, August 13 at 10:30am to find out more.
Do feel free to bring a friend along, this coffee morning will also be an opportunity to discuss suggestions for future outings.

ARTSREACH: “All the Fun of the Circus” is the title of a show starting at 3:45pm on Monday, August 13.
This dance workshop run by Claire Camble Hutchins is suitable for ages six and older and promises to be full of fun and props!
It takes place in the Village Hall, tickets are £ 10 each.

BUCKLAND NEWTON

DOMINEY’S Yard will once again be open on Sunday, August 19 from 2pm – 6pm.
Visitors are as always welcome to use the arboretum from noon onwards for a picnic.
Plants will be for sale and refreshments on offer throughout the afternoon.
The gardens are as beautiful and colourful as ever so do come and support the National Gardens Scheme charities if you can!
Entry is £ 4, children go free.

 

CLEAN up!
Have you used the Village Hall before or perhaps you are a regular visitor to the village!
All residents and non-residents, willing to pick up a duster, brush or paint pot are needed for the annual clean-up of this popular hall.
This fun event (yes, it can be fun!) starts at 10am on Saturday, August 11, please wear old clothes and join the team to contribute to a sparkling result to be proud of!
