Puddletown

  • A MAGNIFICENT total of £3,254.77 was made at the five churches fete held at Athelhampton House.

The day was blessed with perfect sunshine and a good crowd of visitors to enjoy the lively swing band, the duck race, racing ferrets, coconut shy, bouncy castle and a variety of interesting stalls and entertainments.

It is greatly appreciated by the committee that this beautiful venue is used for the fete.

Great thanks go to Patrick and Andrea Cooke, and to Jim Burg, Marion Bishop and Diana Bennett for all their hard work, and also to all the stall holders, scene shifters and gazebo erectors.

  • LUNCH in the village hall this month is on Monday, October 11 from noon until 1.30pm, serving delicious homemade food.
  • POP-IN coffee mornings are held every Thursday in the church room from 10am until noon,

Rosemary will bring her card stall on Thursday, October 14.

  • CALENDAR sales of the parish calendar for 2011 are going well.

  • A MEETING will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 10am in the church room to discuss the plans for the open gardens day on Sunday, June 19 2011.

Everyone is welcome.

  • CHILDREN'S Society boxes will be collected at the church service on Sunday, October 24 at 11am.

There will be a talk by Tony Brooks from the society, and the service will be followed by refreshments in the church room.

If you are a box holder,, and are unable to get to the service, please contact Diane Childs on 07767 427449 to arrange for your box to be collected, and a new one supplied.

  • MINI-FOOTBALL club starts again now that the summer holidays are over.

The club is open to all boys and girls between the ages to six and 12.

It runs on Saturday mornings between 10am and noon with fully qualified coaches, and the cost is just £1 per week.

Any potential new members can have an introductory free week.

You will find a very friendly atmosphere.

There is an under 10s team that plays on Sunday mornings especially looking for a new goalkeeper.

Tolpuddle

  • WILDLIFE Ramble Through the Season is the title of a talk by wildlife photographer Brian Pettit on Friday, October 15 at 7.30pm in the village hall.

Tickets cost £5 including refreshments.

  • A NEW travel group has been set up to offer the residents of Puddletown, Tolpuddle and Crossways the opportunity of days out by coach from the area at a sensible cost.

These will include short shopping trips to special events, meals out, bingo nights and attractions further afield to suit the whole family, using quality local coaches.

Pick-up points will be as near to you as possible, and can include points in Dorchester, Bere Regis and other local areas.

The first trip to be arranged is to Bridgewater carnival on Friday, November 5.

This is the largest illuminated carnival in Europe.

The coach will depart in late afternoon, and return just after 11pm.

The cost is £13.95 for adults and £12.50 child.
