Puddletown

  • SUPPORTERS of the fight to save Puddletown’s library gathered for a very special concert of classical guitar music by Michael Partington.

The concert was held in the conservatory at Athelhampton House, generously loaned without charge by Patrick Cooke.

This lovely concert attracted not only library supporters, but also visitors from further afield with a special interest in guitar music.

Top classical guitarist, Michael Partington, who grew up in Milborne Port and now lives in America, gave his services without charge in support of this very important cause.

Around 70 people came along for the concert, which raised £250 for the Friends of Puddletown Library.

  • TWO concerts are to be held in May to raise funds to benefit St Mary’s Middle School.

On Thursday, May 5 at 7.30pm, there is to be a jazz concert by the Bobby Wellins Trio at the church at Plush.

Bobby Wellins is considered to be one of the icons of British modern jazz.

On Saturday, May 7 at 7.30pm in Affpuddle church, there is to be a concert of Baroque music by the Denner Ensemble.

Tickets for each concert cost £12.50 each, or you would like go to both it will cost £20.

  • LUNCH in the village hall will be on Monday, May 9 from noon until 1.30pm.

The main course is sausage casserole, with the full complement of Puddletown puds to choose from.

The cost is just £5.50 each for the meal.

Tolpuddle

  • ROYAL wedding celebrations will take place at the Martyrs’ Inn on Friday, April 29 from 10.30am.

There is a large-screen plasma TV on which to watch the ceremony whilst sipping a Pimms and nibbling canapés and blinis.

There will also be a barbecue throughout the afternoon and evening, with stalls in the car park to raise funds for local charities.

  • NICKI Brunt and Sue Chapman are again making arrangements for the Tex recycling collection for Tolpuddle village hall and Cancer Research and Christian Aid Week collection on Sunday, May 15.

If you have any good-quality clothing, shoes, handbags and other household textiles such as curtains, etc, for recycling collection, please save these items until then.

NIcki and Sue will provide bags and advise you of a collection day and time soon.

All bags are weighed and are paid for by the kilogram, so the more they receive, the more cash is received!

Please ask your friends and colleagues to collect too.

Proceeds from the recycling will be in aid of cancer research through Race for Life, and for Tolpuddle village hall.

  • EXERCISE in the village hall and save the petrol costs of travelling into town!

It only costs 50p per session, with £5 annual membership.
