The small village of Longworth is a couple of miles south of the River Thames on a ridge known as the Golden Ridge. Longworth was originally known as the village of Worth, meaning an enclosure, but the prefix Long was added to describe its narrow shape. The oldest building in the village is the parish church, St. Mary's, part of which was constructed in the 12th century. There is a village hall, a pre-school and primary school and a good Village Inn. Longworth lies just off a quiet lane that runs parallel with the busy A420 Oxford to Swindon road, a mile west of the A415 and Kingston Bagpuize/Southmoor.
