The Stables is the largest house in the Grade II Listed Dower Court and while part of it was undoubtedly stables, part was the groom's bothy and therefore always residential. The courtyard was converted into five units in the early 1990's from a beautifully constructed building thought to date from the late 19th century. These were the stables and coach house for Somerford House and were built in a style to reflect the importance of this property. The Court is stone built with dressed stone arches, door and window surrounds and quoins. The windows are nearly all stone mullioned with leaded lights and many have period fittings. The roof has clay tiles and the rainwater goods are of cast iron. One of the bedrooms is over the former coach arch and is topped with a fox weather vane: the stable bell outside the window can still be operated from this bedroom. The Stables is a house which, with its communal courtyard garden is ideal for those requiring ease of management or those needing a pied à terre which can be left unattended for long periods.

The house has a high degree of privacy within the courtyard due to the landscaping and the layout of the accommodation.

To the east of The Dower Court is a walled and gravelled parking area where 2 spaces are reserved for The Stables. In one corner is a screened area for dustbins. A door leads into the central courtyard which is communally owned and maintained by the residents management company. The pathways are of block paving and the beds planted with shrubs. Alongside The Stables is the original arched coach entrance with double doors inset with a pedestrian door – this provides some cover for log storage and a way through to the village.

Somerford Keynes is situated on the edge of the Cotswold Water Park which provides lakes for leisure activities as diverse as jet skiing, sailing and angling. Swindon, about 12 miles to the south, is a major regional centre with very extensive commercial, shopping and recreational activities. Trains from the town reach Paddington in less than an hour and the M4 running close by brings the capital within easy motoring distance.
