THE classic novel Persuasion, adapted for stage, is set to be performed at Dorchester Corn Exchange by the acclaimed company Theatre6 on Wednesday, May 30.

Persuasion has been adapted for the stage by Stephanie Dale, who is known to many through her links with Dorchester’s community plays. Filled with live music, drama, laughter and romance from a cast of actors and musicians, Theatre6’s Persuasion is not to be missed.

Lyme Regis famously appears in the book, as the two principal characters holiday there in a dramatic trip.

Jane Austen visited Lyme Regis twice, and her descriptions in the novel show her love of the town “the principal street almost hurrying into the water, the walk to the Cobb, skirting round the pleasant little bay, which, in the season, is animated with bathing machines and company...are what the stranger’s eye will seek.”

Key scenes from the BBC’s two film adaptations of Persuasion were filmed on the Cobb.

For all those who have read the book, or seen the films, the story is unforgettable.

Anne Elliot was young and in love. Engaged to the dashing but poor naval officer, Commander Wentworth, her ambitious family tore them apart.

Years later, the tables have turned and a chance encounter could lead Anne towards the true love she has yearned for or a life forever alone.

Filled with live music, drama, laughter and romance from a cast of actors and musicians, Theatre6’s Persuasion is not to be missed.

Starring Ceri-Lynne Cisonne (The Merry Wives of Windsor, Rocky Horror Picture Show) and adapted for the stage by Stephanie Dale (The Lost Boy, Giants on the Hill), Persuasion is a magical re-imagining with Austen’s timeless comedy of characters. It’s directed by award wining Kate McGregor.
