An artist's image of Colmer’s Hill has been used on the covers of a new book containing stories shortlisted for the Bridport Prize.

Suzanne Clements's image of the landmark, which was created using digital painting software on her iPad, was spotted by author K.M. Elkes on Instagram.

He got in touch with Suzanne, who is originally from New York, and asked if he could use it on the front and back covers of his collection of stories, All That Is Between Us.

Suzanne, originally from New York, moved to Bridport four years ago with her British husband John, who is currently head chef at the Olive Tree restaurant on East Street. She said she was delighted that her picture had been used: “I was really surprised when Ken, the author, got in contact. I had pretty much forgotten I made the image and had no idea where I stored the original. Luckily it was buried in one of my back-ups! I’m just really happy to be part of the book. The stories present everyday relationships in such an extraordinary and emotional way. It’s a beautiful thing.”

The book, which was launched last month, has already drawn praise from a number of British and American authors, including former Bridport Prize judges David Gaffney, Tania Hershman, and Angela Readman, as well as Women’s Prize for Fiction longlister Sophie van Llewyn.

Bristol-based K.M. Elkes said: “I’ve known Suzanne for many years, so when the publisher asked if I had any cover images in mind, I thought there might be something she had created which would fit. A lot of people have said how beautiful the covers look, so I know I made the right choice.”

“I also like that it has Bridport links – when I first began writing seriously in 2012 one of my first aims was to enter the Bridport Prize, because of its highly-regarded status. Being part of the prize’s community of writers has certainly helped my development.”

All That Is Between US is available in paperback via the Ad Hoc Fiction bookshop at https://bookshop.adhocfiction.com/ and in e-book format on Amazon.
