A DAY of fun and music can be enjoyed at the Anchor Inn at Burton Bradstock on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26.

The Music for Life for Parkinson's UK Day begins at 12 noon and includes bands Pure Fluke featuring Sam Brown, Lisa Kwei Band, Hustle, Million Dollar Bash, Foo Foo, John Cooper's Jazz Trio and Mor or Less.

People will also be able to enjoy a barbecue and children's entertainment.

The cause, Parkinson's UK, is very close to the heart of one of one of the performers, singer songwriter Lisa Kwei.

She said: "My passion for the both Parkinson’s UK as a charity and my music run hand in hand. My father is an eight year sufferer and I’ve actually been a singer/songwriter for eight years so it seemed to fit that my music could make a difference to my father’s life and many others.

"When our first live event for the concept music for life was put together my first thought was to ask the legendary Sam Brown (who taught me backing vocal classes at ACM, Guildford) to endorse us and come along to perform too. She’s an inspiration to me as an artist and it made total sense to me.

"Charity and art go hand in hand, and both must be protected at any cost."

Lisa's first self-released album The Girl You Left Behind gained her many fans around the world, who honed her craft in pubs and clubs across the country. A recommendation followed from music publisher Richard Jackson-Bass head of SPEEGRA, to independent label and management company, Thoroughbredmusic owner Adrian Collis. Adrian listened to Lisa’s material for the new album, and was so impressed, that he immediately set about signing her to the Thoroughbredmusic stable, culminating in Lisa’s second album Lately.

Lisa’s influences include Fleetwood Mac, Imogen Heap, Joni Mitchell and Massive Attack but her sound is truly original Nashville-tinged pop. Her sound is fresh but retro and her tunes stay in your head long after hearing them just once!

Lisa and her band have played live in many iconic venues such as the Hippodrome Leicester Square, The 606 club, Chelsea, The Pheasantry Kings Road and The Bedford, Balham for Tony Moore. Her touring has included much of the UK and Europe and Lisa has also shared the bill with Chic, Bryan Ferry and Jaki Graham to name but a few. Festivals include Guilfest and Weyfest.

Pure Fluke featuring Sam Brown were formed in 2014 as a splinter group of the Fabulous Miss Sam Brown's 'International Ukulele Club of Sonning Common'. This group is comprised of ukuleles, clarinet, melodica, harmonica, bass and voices. Dedicated to merriment and music, Pure Fluke play songs from all eras, with a happy emphasis on the 20s, 30s and 40s...as well as putting a twist on famed and obscure modern classics.
