THE new season of Weymouth Sunday Concerts starts with a fanfare as the Steele-Perkins trio take to the stage.

The first concert, on Sunday, October 6, will feature Crispian Steele-Perkins on trumpet, Leslie Pearson on piano and Sophia Grech, a mezzo-soprano. Formed in 2015, the trio performs music of all genres and by a variety of composers including Mozart, Handel and Vivaldi.

Crispian Steele-Perkins is a world-acclaimed baroque trumpet, having recorded with popular artists such as Led Zeppelin, Katie Bush and Bob Geldof. He plays a concert soloist all over the globe, once performing to an audience of 133,000 at the Edinburgh International Festival. Crispian's music can also be heard on many film scores, including James Bond, as well as the long-running TV series Antiques Roadshow.

Pianist Leslie Pearson is one of Britain's most distinguished keyboard players, equally skilled on piano, organ or harpsichord. He has contributed towards hundreds of film and TV recordings, from Star Wars and Superman to Poirot and Sherlock Holmes. Leslie has also performed with all the London Orchestras as well as the Berlin and Israel Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

After graduating from the Royal College of Music in 1995, Sophia Grech has enjoyed an internationally successful career, performing at leading concert halls, opera houses and festival worldwide. In 2017, Sophia made a special performance at the Royal Albert Hall were she spoke about her life and career as an opera singer with autism. She has also collaborated with several artists throughout her career, from Judi Dench to Charles Dance.

The Steele-Perkins will perform at Weymouth Bay Methodist Church on Sunday, October 6, at 3pm. Their performance will include pieces such as Handel's Let the Bright Seraphim, a Mozart duet from The Magic Flute, excerpts from Haydn's trumpet concerto and items by Bernstein, Rodgers, Sullivan and Novello.

Tickets for the performance are £15 on the door. Alternatively, visitors can buy membership to Weymouth Sunday Concerts for the entire season, which runs until March 2020. Joining will include entry to six concerts and the AGM. For more information, visit www.weymouthmusic.org.uk
