AH, AUTUMN, there you are: The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, conkers and harvest festivals.

Where the produce farmed over the summer months is all safely gathered in and the best specimens are shown off at horticultural shows.

But it’s not just fruit and veg that are shown off, particularly in this part of the world with such a rich and varied crop of live music.

Some of the county’s best bands will setting out their stalls and showing off their undoubted nift and quality chops at Boogie Fest, a threeday celebration held at the Freshwater Holiday Park near Burton Bradstock from Friday October 4 to Sunday, October 6.

And not only will there be a veritable feast of live music with 15 bands over five sessions covering a huge range of styles and genres, they’ll be that warm, fuzzy feeling inside when you know you’re helping raise money for a very worthwhile cause, in this case it’s the RNLI. Friday’s line-up includes the fiddlesome fury of Nina Garcia, the hoedown lowdown from Jolly Boys Outing and the magnificent cheesy disco balls of Jess Upton and the Guilty Pleasures. T

he dynamic father and son double act of Chris Payn and Matt Black plus the sophisticated funk and pop of Fluke are the entertainment for Saturday afternoon while Saturday night’s bill comes from 80s big hair rockers Balance of Power, the mighty Howling at the Moon and disco divas Hustle.

Get that lazy Sunday afternoon feeling with classy three-piece The Royal Ts, veteran rockers Stress and power trio Tripod, before Sunday night’s grand finale of Garry J Foley’s stunning homage to Elvis, the unbelievably gorgeous Glass Spiders and their 70s glam platform reboot, with Dorset’s very own Mr Piano Man Ben Waters headlining and dishing out truckloads of boogie, woogie and a hefty bit of oogie in one of his few local farewell appearances.

Quite a prize-winning selection of local produce, I think you’ll agree and for ticket prices plus accommodation details and all the other shizzle, check out freshwaterbeach.co.uk Moving on and last week’s gig guide featured the upcoming reunion of bands from the past next Friday, September 27, at the Centenary Club in Weymouth. Well, such is the sphere of influence and all-round clout that this page carries with both its readers, the event is now virtually a sell-out with punters reduced to selling elderly relatives and/or vital organs in the hope of getting their paws on any of the few remaining tickets.

But fear not if you’ve missed out because two of the bands playing on Friday, Crystal Ship and Eleventh Hour, will be playing again the following night, Saturday, September 28, at the Centenary Club. And in a kind gesture of thanks to Paul Ward and the staff at the club for all their support in letting the bands rehearse there, they’ll be playing for free. It’s just £1 on the door for club nonmembers. But not only will Crystal Ship be waiving their fee, they’ll also be waving farewell to their hugely popular and charismatic singer Alexis who will be leaving to band to concentrate on her growing solo career. And finally, I’ll be entertaining both my listeners with another Hijacked show for Air FM 107.2 next Wednesday, September 25 from 8-10pm, so listen in for more quality vintage soul and funk and my celebrated mime act, so good I don’t like to talk about it.
