THAT ominous rumble you’ve been hearing for the last few days is not the pile-driving work continuing at Weymouth harbour.

No, it’s the approaching all-encompassing doom of a four-pronged metallic meltdown heading for Finns in Weymouth next Friday, October 25.

It may be a week away but sludge metal fans already have that familiar grumbling in their innards that comes with another Realms of Wrongness promotion.

A night of four gut-wrenching stoner bands will be headed up by Reading’s Morass of Mollasses who are distressing the good citizens of the UK as part of their Primal Forces tour which kicks off at Finns.

Kerrrang! hails the hugely hirsuite three-piece as ‘having enough bowel-quaking low-end to fill another Sabbath album’ while the band themselves describe their sound as ‘chunky, hearty and satisfying’. So a kind of Cockaleekie soup then.

Also playing next Friday are Cornwall’s foremost doom/pshychedelic/space rock practitioners Cybernetic Witch Cult, Yeovil-based five-piece Duskwood who list ‘drinking until we can’t see’ and ‘venison’ as their interests (Honestly, this page gets like Tinder every day… Swipe right, girls) and Bath trio Doomicidal who could do with a good cheering up, to be frank.

It’s a mere £3 on the door from 7.30pm next Friday which a bargain if you’re looking to having your vital organs sonically adjusted.

Moving on, and the Belvedere in Weymouth continues to bring new bands to the town with a show next Saturday, October 26 from Hawkeye and Hoe.

The bluegrass/rockabilly/farmerfolk duo have spent the last 26 years touring Europe and Scandinavia so must be due a change of pants and socks any decade now.

During that epic adventure, they’ve been through 15 cars, four double basses, nine guitars, five banjos, four cigar cases and a rubber chicken. Probably best not to ask, really…

And finally, last month’s bands reunion featuring Package Deal, Abacus and Eleventh Hour at the Centenary Club in Weymouth raised the incredible sum of just under £3,000.

And two very worthy local charities, the MV Freedom and the Veterans Hub, each received £1,000 in a cheque presentation held at the club yesterday.

Congratulations and high fives galore to the organisers, the bands and all the punters who made the event so special.

So make a date in your diary for the next bands reunion on Friday, Novemeber 27, which will feature Hexagon, Ken Watkins and The Originals.
