OLD melodies will be revived in The Carpenters Experience, coming to the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Thursday, November 14.
This special show by Maggie Nestor features eight top musicians, who encapsulate the haunting sights and sounds of Richard and Karen Carpenter.
Repeatedly referred to as the UK’s leading Carpenters show, this is a chance to see the Carpenter siblings in their would-be prime. Karen’s silky contralto is combined with Richard’s seamless harmonies in this big production that relives the soundtrack to the 70s, bringing Close to You, We’ve Only Just Begun, Top of the World, Rainy Days and Mondays, Solitaire, Goodbye to Love, and a litany of classics to the stage once more.
Maggie Nestor uncannily reproduces Karen’s mannerisms and smooth vocals.
Masked by the big hair, Brady Bunch-esque wholesome image the siblings projected, the recent re-evaluation of their work and lives - entangled with addiction and mental illness - has shed a new light on well-known and loved lyrics. The performance (aptly called an ‘experience’) is a chance for old fans, and new, to fully immerse themselves the band’s music and world again.
