AN INTERNATIONAL pianist will bring her special recital programme, Far From the Home I Love, to Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, on Thursday, October 24.

Margaret Fingerhut has performed at venues across the world and is renowned for her innovative recital programmes in which she explores her fascination with lesser known piano repertoire. Margaret has also appeared as a concert soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Mozart Players.

She has recently been performing at venues across the UK to raise awareness of the needs of refugees, and to collect funds for the City of Sanctuary refugee groups. The national charity works with towns and cities across the country to develop places of safety for all and offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution.

Through music and words, Margaret will tell the story of some of the many composers who became refugees due to war or persecution, or who migrated for their profession. Her recital, Far From the Home I Love, will include music by Handel, Haydn, Grieg, Rachmaninov. Prokofiev and Chopin, as well as featuring Memories From My Land, a hauntingly beautiful piece written for Margaret by Kurdish composer Moutaz Arian.

The recital will take place in The Sherling Studio and begins at 7pm. Tickets cost £15.75 for adults, with concessions available for students, seniors, and under-18s. To make a booking, visit www.lighthousepoole.co.uk or contact the box office.
