A FAMILY-FRIENDLY theatre performance packed with daring and intrigue will visit two Dorset venues this November, in partnership with Artsreach.

Clare Hollingworth & The Scoop of the Century takes audiences back to August 1939, when the intrepid young journalist crossed the border from Poland to Germany and saw something that would change her life, and history, forever.

Set in a variety of locations from busy newspaper offices in London to the frontline of the conflict, the production brings to life the remarkable true story of the fearless reporter.

Working for The Daily Telegraph, Clare was the first foreign correspondent to report the outbreak of the Second World War, when she spotted German forces preparing to cross the Polish border. As her career progressed, Clare continued to report on conflicts across the world, from Palestine and Algeria to China and Vietnam.

In 1982, she was awarded an OBE for her services to journalism. She died in 2017 at the age of 105.

Clare Hollingworth & The Scoop of the Century is an interactive show bursting with songs and stories, produced by Exeter-based company, PaddleBoat Theatre. Committed to delivery high quality productions across the south west, the company blends creative storytelling with playful and engaging audience interaction, hoping to inspire the imagination of adults and young people alike.

The story of one of the most important writers of our time will be performed in Chetnole Village Hall at 10am on Saturday, November 9, and in Sturminster Marshall Memorial Hall at 4pm the same day.

The performances are organised by Artsreach, Dorset's touring arts group, which aims to give rural communities across the county the chance to experience high quality arts events in their own villages. Receiving regular funding from Arts Council England and Dorset Council, Artsreach will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2020.

Tickets to see Clare Hollingworth & The Scoop of the Century are £6 - £8 for adults, depending on the venue, and £5 for under-18s. For more information or to make a booking, visit the Artsreach website or contact the box office.
