THE final pre-casting workshop for Dorchester’s next community play, Spinning the Moon, takes place at Dorchester Town Hall on Sunday, November 24.

Everyone is invited to attend the fun, informal session, which runs from 2-4pm and will be led by the play’s assistant director Penny Levick.

No acting experience is needed and all ages and abilities are welcome.

Casting takes place the following weekend, from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1 through a series of two-hour drama workshops.

Community play vice chair Rowan Seymour said: “It would be wonderful to see as many people as possible at the castings – if the previous workshops are anything to go by it should be a busy weekend!

“The thing to remember is that although everyone interested will have a part, casting will be done through how much time anyone can give to the play. If you work full time or have outside commitments, as we all do, we will work around that so everyone feels comfortable with the role they are assigned.”

Spinning the Moon, which will have 11 performances over Easter 2020, is a partly historical drama based in Dorchester and Abbotsbury. It is set shortly after the Wars of the Roses and is a timely tale of social revolution, noble families and the people who work their land. There is even a surprise appearance by the Spanish queen Joanna the Mad, who was shipwrecked off Portland Bill!

Rowan said: “Dipping a toe into performing in public can feel quite daunting but there’s no need to be nervous. It’s the best fun you can have and you will make many new friends and brilliant memories, and learn new skills too, along the way.

“I have taken part in several of these plays with my family and we have made lifelong friends and a lifetime of memories through it.”

Casting for Spinning the Moon takes place through a series of two-hour fun, improvisation warm-ups and workshops being held from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1.

Anyone interested need only attend one session. The times of each two-hour workshop are 7.30pm on Friday, November 29; 10am, 1.30pm and 4.30pn on Saturday, November 30 and 10am and 1.30pm on Sunday, December 1.
