An acclaimed dance theatre company are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a triple bill of performances.

The all-male 2Faced Dance will perform Everything [but the girl] at The Bay Theatre at Weymouth College on Wednesday, February 12.

Three pieces of contemporary dance have been choreographed by Tamsin Fitzgerald, artistic director of 2Faced Dance, and Fleur Darkin, the former artistic director of Dundee Rap and Scottish Dance Theatre.

The trio of performances will include a reimagining of 7.0, a dance created by Tamsin after she visited the earthquake-hit Haiti in 2010 as part of an international aid team. A shining light in the company's canon, the updated version marks 10 years since the disaster.

"I'd forgotten what an incredible piece it is," Tamsin says. "The trip to Haiti just after the earthquake is one of my most vivid memories. Seeing the small difference that dance made to children who had nothing was a very moving and totally inspiring experience."

Tamsin's second piece in the triple bill is the world premiere of Hollow in a World Too Full, a solo work following a man's journey through an overwhelming world. The dance is performed to a newly commissioned score by film and TV composer, Alex Baranowski.

Fleur has created The Quallies, which brings to life David Foster-Wallace's study of tennis player Michael Joyce. Four dancers will perform with attentive skill and subtlety to explore the sacrifices necessary to be truly great at something.

Fleur says: "Having worked in dance and theatre and writing my whole career, I see the connection between achievement and its opposite, and how the brilliance of the opening night is followed by the comedown of the morning after. I wanted to comment on this idealisation of the individual. It’s been amazing working with 2Faced Dance; their skill, confidence and sheer attitude to work is extremely impressive."

Founded in 2000, 2Faced Dance Company produces innovative artistic performances alongside running a community dance programme that inspires budding performers to get involved.

The performance of Everything [but the girl] at The Bay Theatre begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 for adults and £13 for concessions, available from the Weymouth College website or ticket office.
