DOGS can now beat the heat with a frozen treat created especially for pups.

The Dorset brand Baboo Gelato, based in Salway Ash, has developed the brand new Doggy Doggy Yum Yum, made with live coconut yoghurt, bananas and peanut butter, and 100per cent organic.

These treats have proven health benefits for pooches. Coconut yoghurt contains live probiotics, good for dogs' digestion - as well as vitamin C, iron, magnesium, copper and potassium. Bananas are also packed with potassium and magnesium, which is good for bone growth, as well as vitamin B6, vitamin C, and fibre, which can help with gastrointestinal problems. The peanut butter is made with 100% peanuts, so does not contain xylitol, sugar or palm oil, and it is sweetened only with a little agave syrup.

Doggy Doggy Yum Yums are also suitable for people to eat.

Annie Hanbury, from Baboo Gelato, who is herself an avid dog lover, said: "Lots of people were coming to our kiosks to buy themselves and their dogs an ice cream. We were concerned at how healthy this could be for the pets, not least because dogs' tummies do not cope well with lactose from the milk. So, I came up with a recipe that contains no dairy, gluten, or hidden nasties that could be harmful to dogs. And as with all our products, it doesn't include any artificial flavourings. In fact, it tastes so good I eat it myself."

After years of living abroad, Annie and her family moved to the beautiful rolling hills behind the Dorset seaside town of Bridport and became the proud owners of a smallholding with an overflowing and abandoned market garden. A Bologna-trained professional ice cream maker, Annie launched Baboo Gelato in 2015.

Now making more than 16 varities, from salted caramel gelato to pear sorbet, all of Baboo's ice cream indulgences are made from scratch in Dorset, using traditional techniques and locally sourced ingredients.

You can get your paws on Doggy Doggy Yum Yum at Baboo Gelato's three kiosks in West Bay, Lyme Regis and a farm shop in Morecombelake. The treats are also available from a number of dog-friendly retailers and pubs, while human options can be bought from a range of delicatessens across the county.
